Walking along the maze, we found a dead magpie lying on the path. We went closer to take a look and see if we might bury her nearby. Suddenly she moved her head. Taken by surprise, we decided to save her from certain death. She desperately tried to get away and hide under the bushes, but we managed to scoop her up. She immediately started crying, but as I pressed her against my chest, she closed her eyes and rested her head. We could see scars on her face from some creature who had attacked her. We tried to see if she had perhaps fallen out of a nest and if her parents might be looking for her. No one in sight, so we called Animal Rescue and they promised to pick her up. We waited patiently until they arrived, and were happy to hear that she might make it.
